Post-war Toowoomba
Rangeville became a sought-after residential area early in the twentieth century, but most of its housing is post-war, with building continuing right through to the 1990s. Two heritage-listed places sit within it: Picnic Point and Geeumbi, a four-storey house from 1914. For a painter, the suburb is a cross-section of fifty years of Australian building: fibro and weatherboard homes, brick veneer from the 1960s to the 1980s, and later rendered homes.
Brick from the 1970s and 1980s
A lot of Rangeville homes are face brick from those decades. Painting face brick is one of the most popular ways to update them, and it can transform a dated house. It is also permanent, so the decision deserves a proper conversation about the right masonry system, colour and upkeep. Render and brick painting covers it.
Weatherboard and fibro
Older weatherboard and fibro homes need the usual exterior preparation, plus care with materials of their age. Some older fibro sheeting contains asbestos, which should not be sanded or water-blasted. If you are unsure, say so when you request a quote.
Inside
Updating a post-war home often means an interior refresh as well: ceilings, walls and timber doors that have gone yellow with age. Interior painting has more.
Views and weather
Parts of Rangeville sit high near the escarpment, catching wind and full sun. Exposed walls weather faster, and colour choice matters on the west side.

Questions from the area
Is there a fee for using this?
No fee at all. Asking for a painter is free, the painter quotes the work, and you are free to turn the quote down.
How many coats does a repaint need?
Commonly a primer or undercoat where needed plus two topcoats, but it depends on the surface, the paint and any colour change. The quote should state the system and the number of coats.
Should I paint my face brick?
It can modernise a home, but it is a one-way decision because removing paint from brick is hard. It needs a masonry paint system and regular upkeep. Talk it through with the painter first.
