From farms to family homes
Middle Ridge started out as a farming community. Rural-residential settlement arrived in the 1980s, and residential subdivisions followed in the next decade, so much of the suburb is spacious homes on tree-lined streets, now thirty or forty years old. That age is exactly when the first big repaint comes due.
The first full repaint
Homes from the 1980s and 1990s often still carry their original exterior paint, or one repaint at most. Typical signs it is time: chalky walls, faded trims, peeling on the weather side, and gutters and fascias showing their age. A full exterior repaint at this stage is mostly washing, sanding, spot priming and two coats, with any rot found in fascias or barge boards repaired first. Exterior house painting covers it.
Bigger houses, bigger interiors
Larger homes mean high ceilings, open living areas and stairwells, which need scaffolding or platforms to paint safely and well. A colour refresh inside is one of the most common updates, often to move away from the creams and peaches of the era. Interior painting has more.
Decks and outdoor areas
Many Middle Ridge homes have timber decks, pergolas and fences that see harsh sun and winter frost. Oiling or staining these regularly keeps the timber sound. Fence and deck painting explains the options.

Questions from the area
Will a painter answer when I phone?
No. Toowoomba Painters is a referral service. We note down the job, ask what affects the price and pass your request to a single QBCC-licensed painter who works your area. The painter then contacts you to look at the job and quote.
Oil or paint for a timber deck?
Most decks suit a decking oil or stain, because paint on a walking surface wears through and can be slippery. Fences and pergolas suit paint or stain. Oiled decks need recoating more often but are simple to redo.
